DAY 2: LIMA
Head out to the countryside for a welcome lunch at a hacienda and enjoy an exhibition of the gaited Peruvian Paso horses. Then return to the city for a tour of colonial and modern Lima. JW Marriott Hotel B L
DAY 3: LIMA / SACRED VALLEY
Fly to Cusco and embark on a visit to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After lunch, examine firsthand the fortress of Ollantaytambo, then visit a local family's home where donkeys, roosters and guinea pigs freely roam in the courtyard. Tonight, bring out the inner artist in your child with a demonstration of the art of fruit and vegetable carving especially adapted for the young. Casa Andina
DAY 4: SACRED VALLEY
Visit the Inca town of Chincheros and learn to weave a basket in the home of a local family. Then tour colonial Maras, where a resident demonstrates how to prepare a local maize beverage. Tonight, enjoy a "make your own pizza" dinner and participate in an ancient Andean ritual of giving thanks to the Earth. Casa Andina B L D
DAY 5: SACRED VALLEY / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO
Board the morning train bound for Machu Picchu, the magical "Lost City of the Incas." Exploring the ruins, try to visualize the lives of those who inhabited this mysterious citadel. After lunch, return by train to Cusco, where the evening is at leisure. Hotel Monasterio B L
DAY 6: CUSCO
Among Cusco's amazing sites is the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose walls are built of huge stone slabs so tightly fitted together that, as your guide demonstrates, it's impossible to insert a piece of paper between them. Enjoy a walking tour of the town's colonial section before returning to the hotel for dinner, with a presentation of the ancient music of the Andes. Hotel Monasterio B L D
DAY 7: CUSCO / IQUITOS
Flying via Lima to Iquitos, board a boat for the journey down the Amazon River to your lodge, where local guides are always ready to relate some of the many legends of the Amazon Forest. Ceiba Tops Lodge & Resort B L D
DAYS 8-9: IQUITOS
Visit the spectacular Canopy Walkway and Ethnobotanical Garden where more than 140 medicinal plants are cultivated by a local shaman. Then it's time to enjoy the Amazon as you choose. Relax by the pool or choose from a variety of excursions, including guided rainforest walks, bird watching, piranha fishing, dolphin cruises or a visit to a local native community. DAY 10: IQUITOS / LIMA
